Viajes del Agua
With great pride and gratitude, we had the honor of presenting the exhibition of master artist Manuel Miguel at the Casa de México Gallery of the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston.
Manuel Miguel’s artistic vision unfolded through this exhibition as a symbolic journey across the waters, from Oaxaca to Texas, creating a space where differences did not disappear, but instead entered into dialogue and generated new resonances.
Through his work, the artist guided us into a universe where nature, living beings, mythology, and spirituality intertwined, revealing the invisible forces that sustain existence. Born in the Zapotec mountains, Manuel Miguel has developed a visual language deeply connected to the earth, memory, and the cycles of life.
His figures revealed inner layers, emotions, and paths that converged within the human condition.
Within this universe appeared beings that inhabit the threshold between the visible and the invisible.
Among them, the hummingbird emerged as a recurring and powerful presence—a symbol of movement, resilience, and spiritual connection. Its figure linked the earthly with the intangible, consciousness with mystery, and personal experience with collective memory.
In the Zapotec worldview, the hummingbird is regarded as a messenger of the gods, a presence between worlds and between life and death. Its flight represents transition, transformation, and the continuous flow of existence.
Through this figure, the artist invited us to reflect on the profound connection shared by all living beings. Each element belongs to a greater structure, which he describes as “a link within the great cosmic machinery.” His work reminds us that genuine art communicates directly with our inner world.
On a personal level, we found reflections of our own stories. Collectively, we recognized the voice of culture and the spirit of the human community.
This meeting of free, abundant, and unstoppable waters between Mexico and the United States celebrated art’s ability to cross territories, memories, and sensibilities.
Like water, and like the flight of the hummingbird—which recognizes no borders but follows the rhythms and cycles of nature—Manuel Miguel’s work moves between worlds, carrying with it the strength of memory and life.
The exhibition is open to the public from July 22 through August 28, 2026.
