The evening will bring together art, culture, creativity, and community in the welcoming setting of Altar Aqua Studio.

Featured Artist: Yvette Grutter

Yvette Grutter is a Mexican-Swiss-American mixed-media artist and papermaker based in Houston, Texas.

Born in Mexico City, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio, with a concentration in Printmaking and a minor in Sculpture. She currently works from her studio at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, where her practice brings together mixed-media painting, printmaking, sculpture, and handmade paper.

Grutter’s sensitivity to materials and process reflects the many layers of her multicultural heritage and international experiences. Her artistic development has been influenced by residencies and cross-cultural exchanges, including a UNESCO-sponsored residency in Valencia, Spain.

Through texture, color, natural fibers, and the transformative qualities of paper, her work explores themes of memory, identity, nature, and personal experience. Flowers and organic materials become more than visual elements within her work; they serve as vessels for emotion, history, and transformation.

In 2025, the Government of Mexico named Grutter a Cultural Ambassador during the VI Jornada de Artistas, recognizing her commitment to promoting Mexican culture and traditions abroad.

For more than four decades, she has shared her passion for art and her belief in the importance of transmitting aesthetic and cultural values through both her artistic practice and teaching. She has taught adults and children, served as a mentor for the internship program at the University of Houston–Downtown, and continues to offer paper-making workshops throughout the year.

Her work has been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Switzerland, Spain, and Turkey. It is also held in significant collections and has been featured in numerous publications.
